Zambia Photography Symposium

We adore Zambia and feel it’s one of the last truly wild safari destinations left to discover.

For eight nights in October 2024 we’ll take over Classic Zambia’s Musekese and Kutali camps. exploring the magical Miombo woodlands, open grasslands of the Kafue national park and the mystical Albida forests of the Lower Zambezi searching for the charismatic mega fauna these areas have to offer. Both ecosystems provide excellent opportunities to view and photograph an immense rage of wildlife from lion, leopard and painted wolves to the Africa skimmer and maybe even the Pels fishing owl.

With Matt and William both professional photographers and experienced guides there will be a strong photographic element to the trip, but for those more inclined to witness the miracle of the Zambian bush without a camera in hand we have designed the trip to accommodate all kinds of traveller.

Our two camps, Musekese and Kutali are internationally recognised as providing a rustically luxurious base from which to explore the Zambian wilderness

Back in camp, Matt and Will can host private editing sessions to ensure you get the best out of your images, while also running group sessions so we can compare images and review them together.

This trip, perhaps our most immersive itinerary of 2024, is one we are immensely excited about and welcome the opportunity to have you with us

Key Information

  • 30th September - 9th October 2024

  • As we have taken exclusive use of both camps, Kutali and Musekese we can be flexible with numbers but have limited it to a maximum of 10 guests.

  • Kutali and Musekese Camps: Both tented camps have very spacious and comfortable communal areas where Matt and Will can conduct group and 1-1 editing sessions. The phenomenal quality of the food and perfect location make them ideal homes for our time in Zambia.

  • All travellers are required to get to Lusaka, Zambia’s capital, by September 30th. Most European flights tend to go via Johannesburg or the Emirates.

Itinerary

Accommodation

Classic Zambia’s Musekese camp is situated on the aptly names Eden Lagoon with all areas of the camp set up to ensure uninterrupted views across the seasonal dambo. The camp is surrounded by a myriad of wildlife and at times is even “invaded” by the local lion pride.

The camp has five spacious, open fronted tents with en-suite bathrooms allowing you to relax and immerse in the beauty of your surroundings 24 hours a day.

Kutali camp has a rustic charm like no other in the Lower Zambezi. Situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi and set within a cathedral like albida forest you still struggle to find a more mystical setting for a camp anywhere in Africa.

Much like Musekese, Kutali has 5 tents with en-suite facilities, the slight difference being that the bathrooms are open to the elements and make use of the traditional bucket shower system. Don’t be surprised if the occasional elephant trunk appears over the reed matt fencing whilst you are taking a shower.

As the group is limited to 10 guests, both camps will be exclusively ours and are the perfect homes for us to explore the areas in a Landrover, by boat or on foot.

Both camps have very spacious and comfortable ‘mess tent’ areas where Matt and Will can conduct private editing sessions as well as group lectures. These are also the areas we will eat and we can happily vouch for the phenomenal quality of the food. It is also the perfect location relax with a gin & tonic after an extraordinary day of wildlife viewing and photography.

Experience

When anyone thinks of Africa their first thought is always of lion, leopards and elephants. There is so much more to Zambian wildlife than that though and we aim to show you as much of that as possible.

From both Musekese and Kutali camp we will be perfectly situated in the hearts of both the Kafue and Lower Zambezi National parks to jump into the land rovers and begin the search for wildlife directly from camp. We couldn’t be better located to give ourselves the best chance to see and photograph the most iconic wildlife in Africa.

Our wildlife viewing and photography will not be limited to land rovers. We will also have the opportunity to explore two of the most iconic rivers in Zambia by boat. The Kafue and The Zambezi, affording us a complete change in perspective and also an opportunity to photograph countless bird species as well as hippo and elephant from water level.

Photography

Not only is the wildlife breathtaking, the landscape is too. Meaning for those interested in photography the potential of getting ‘the shot’ of a lion, leopard or wild dog out on the open grasslands or under the beautiful blue canopy of the winter thorn forest is a strong reality.

While nothing can be guaranteed with wildlife we will do our upmost to ensure we have the best possible chance of high quality sightings, while we believe booking each camp exclusively should give us a strong degree of control at each sighting we find ourselves at.

Back in camp there will be plenty of one-to-one and group editing sessions, utilising Will’s years as professional photographer to bolster your blossoming wildlife portfolio.

Matt has spent a large portion of his life in Zambia and strongly maintains that it is one of the best places in Africa to see wildlife and to experience true wilderness like very few places left on earth.
